2024 Medela Cares Impact Report

Time to read: 3 min.

Dear Valued Customers,

For more than six decades, Medela has been guided by the mission of turning science into care to nurture health for generations. Marking our fifth year since the launch of Medela Cares, we are proud to share the progress of our sustainability journey through our 2024 Medela Cares Impact Report.

Inspired by the priorities of the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Medela Cares focuses on the areas where we can have the greatest impact—aligned with our business priorities and the global topics of human rights, labor, environment, and anti-corruption, synthesized into our three pillars of commitment: People, Planet, and Society.

Highlights from the 2024 Report:

  • People: As part of our commitment to champion equity, we are proud to report global female representation of approximately 60%, with 56.7% of leadership positions held by women across the company. Recognizing that equity thrives in a diverse and inclusive culture, we continued to foster an inclusive workplace through initiatives like our LINC mentoring program and sustained strong employee engagement through recognition programs and global cultural events.
  • Planet: We are excited about the progress made in this area. Our commitment to sustainability in packaging and operations led to a 37% reduction in virgin plastic across our retail packaging—surpassing our 2025 target. We achieved a 12% conversion to recycled cardboard and reduced CO₂ emissions by 331 tons through packaging and materials improvements. In addition, we conducted a comprehensive revision of our Scope 1 and 2 emissions in alignment with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHGP) to ensure year-over-year comparability, while also laying the groundwork for Scope 3 emissions tracking and the development of a detailed decarbonization roadmap.
  • Society: Through our ongoing partnerships, we have trained more than 100 midwives, supporting over 5,400 safe births to help combat maternal and infant mortality and malnutrition in under-resourced regions. At the same time, we continue to expand access to the latest scientific evidence in healthcare. In 2024, our educational initiatives reached over 34,000 healthcare professionals through Medela platforms, amplifying our commitment to equitable access to breastfeeding support and education.

The dedication of our employees and the trust of our partners continue to drive our progress and impact. Looking ahead, we are shaping our post-2025 Medela Cares Strategy and are transitioning to an ESG-aligned reporting framework in 2026, reflecting our long-term commitment to responsible and transparent business practices.
